Respiratory Therapy Degree Completion Application Information
 

 

We strongly recommend that you make a photocopy of your completed application for your future reference or in case your application is lost in the mail.

I. GENERAL APPLICATION INFORMATION
  1. Applicants who have completed an CoARC accredited Associate degree (AA or AS) in Respiratory Therapy and hold the RRT credential will be given advanced standing credit toward MU's junior year. Note: Only professional courses with a 2.5 and above on a 4.0 scale are eligible for transfer to MU.
  2. Applicants transferring to MU must have a cumulative, certified GPA of 2.5 to be accepted to the university. For additional information regarding transfer, students may contact Student Affairs at (573) 882-8011.
  3. Applicants must have completed at least one-year of post graduate, critical care experience in respiratory therapy. Information and guidelines for validation of clinical experience are available.
  4. Each applicant is required to fulfill the equivalent of the requirements listed under the Freshman and Sophomore years on the enclosed Curriculum Guide prior to starting the RT degree completion program.
  5. The first two years of course work may be completed at any accredited university, college or junior college if appropriate courses are available. Contact our Student Affairs Office at (573) 882-8011 to request a credit transfer audit of courses taken off MU's campus. All prerequisites should be completed in accordance with the Respiratory Therapy Degree Curriculum Guide as closely as possible.
  6. Once accepted into the degree completion program, the student must achieve a grade of 2.0 (75%) or above in all required courses and maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average each semester. If the student does not maintain a 2.0 semester grade point average, Respiratory Therapy program faculty will review the situation with the possible option to recommend dismissal.
  7. In accordance with University of Missouri-Columbia policy, a minimum of 120 semester credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 is required to be granted a bachelor of health science degree. In addition, a minimum of 30 of the last 36 semester hours are required to be taken at MU (includes course taken through MU Direct and Center for Distance and Individual Study) in order to obtain a bachelor's degree from MU.
  8. Transfer students are not required to apply for general admission to the University of Missouri-Columbia until they have received notification of acceptance (or non-acceptance) to the Respiratory Therapy Degree Completion Program. Acceptance to the Respiratory Therapy program is contingent upon acceptance to the University of Missouri-Columbia.
  9. Successful completion of this program will entitle the student to a Bachelor of Health Science - Respiratory Therapy degree.
  10. Specific information concerning fees may be obtained from MU Direct 230 Jesse Hall, Columbia, MO 65211. Financial assistance information may be obtained through the Office of Student Financial Aid, 11 Jesse Hall (573) 882-7506.

II. APPLICATION PROCEDURE (Read all materials carefully and follow instructions)

All student applicants must:

  1. Return a completed and signed application to:

  2. Provide a notarized copy of your official NBRC credential certificate(s) to above address.
  3. If you are sending transcripts or copies of transcripts for a preliminary audit separate from the application, please be sure to contact the program director (see address above) by mail, , or call 573-882-8034 prior to the request.  This will assure audit results are returned to you in a timely manner. 

    Note: A photostatic or unofficial copy of your transcript for application will suffice until the official transcript is received.

III. PROCESSING APPLICATIONS

  1. The Admissions Committee will review and evaluate your packet when it is complete.
  2. You will receive notification of your admission standing by US mail.

IV. ACCEPTANCE TO THE RESPIRATORY THERAPY PROGRAM IS CONTINGENT UPON:

  1. Acceptance by the University of Missouri-Columbia.
  2. Verification of your NBRC RRT credential.
  3. Verification of one year post-graduate respiratory therapy work experience in a critical care clinical setting.
  4. Validation of previous respiratory therapy didactic and clinical course work through inspection of official transcripts. A cumulative grade point average of > 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required for advanced standing course credit request.
  5. Progress toward degree completion according to designed academic plan.
