Respiratory Therapy Graduation & Credentialing

The MU Respiratory Therapy program boasts 100% job placement after graduation.  MU Graduates are employed in Missouri and throughout the country in positions of advanced clinicians, department managers, medical equipment industry leaders, clinical and academic educators, community educators, consulting, and in public health.

Upon graduation, students will receive the Bachelor of Health Science degree in Respiratory Therapy (BHS-RT).  Graduates will then be eligible to sit for the National board exams given by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).  The Entry Level exam is administered immediately following graduation.  This exam must be successfully completed before the graduate can sit for the next two advanced exams.  Students may opt to sit for this Entry Level exam before graduation if they desire.  Students successful on the Entry Level exam will receive the credential of CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist).  The MU RT program has a 100% first time taker pass rate on this exam, with the national average being 60.57%.

The Bachelor of Health Science degree in Respiratory Therapy (BHS-RT) prepares students to sit for the NBRC Advanced Practitioner exams.  One part is a written multiple choice exam and one part is a clinical simulation exam.  Successful completion of both these exams earn the practitioner the RRT credential (Registered Respiratory Therapist).  The MU RT program has a 100% first time taker pass rate on this written exam with the national average being 78.32%.  MU graduates averaged a 84.21% pass rate for first time takers on the Clinical Simulation Exam with the national average being 64.25%.

The state of Missouri requires Respiratory Therapists to be licensed to practice.  The NBRC Entry Level Examination is used as the exam for licensing in the State of Missouri .

Licensure or registration to practice is required in most states.Graduates will need to start this process immediately after graduation.
