Education:
  • Bachelor OF Occupational Therapy (BOT) from College of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal, Kasturba Medical College, Karnataka, India
  • Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) from Washington School of Medicine, St Louis.
Teaching Activities:
Divya Sood is an Assistant Professor, teaches Developmental Framework and Research Synthesis Project.
Research Activities:
Director of Occupational Therapy research at the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders. Her research interests focuses on:
  • Development and dissemination of a Practice Model for Children with Autism (PMCA). This model will help occupational therapists and clinicians to extend their understanding of the diagnosis of autism beyond the medical knowledge by understanding the experiences of the children with autism in a cultural context. This model will help understand child development in a cultural context and its influence on the participation of the child in home, school and community activities.
  • Understanding the Influence of environmental factors on participation of children with autism in home activities, ages 3 through 6. The research focuses on finding if there is a relationship between enriched home environment, parenting stress and participation of children with autism in home activities.
  • Develop the Home Environment Checklist (HEC). This instrument would help researchers and clinicians to assess the level of environmental complexity in the home environment of children with autism spectrum disorder. The instrument will also provide a new perspective of designing and planning services for children with autism to improve their quality of life and participation in home activities.
Clinical Activities:
Divya Sood also provides clinical services as an occupational therapist at the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental disorders, where she assesses and treats children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
