Department of Occupational Therapy

PREREQUISITES
Master of Occupational Therapy Degree

• Sample Preprofessional Curriculum

Students must complete these courses before entering the professional phase of the MUOT program:
  • Humanities (9 credit hours)
    At least one course from two of the following areas must be included: art appreciation, classical studies, foreign language, humanities, literature, music appreciation, philosophy, religion, theater appreciation or dramatic-arts appreciation.
  • Social Sciences (9 Credit hours)
    American history or government and general psychology, and one course in *sociology, rural sociology or anthropology.
  • Mathematics (6 credit hours)
    College algebra or a higher level mathematics course and a math reasoning proficiency course. A math ACT subscore of 26 will satisfy the college algebra requirement; however, no credit is received.
  • Communication Skills (6 credits) and two writing intensive courses.
    One course in exposition and argumentation and one course in *oral communication.
  • Biological Sciences (8-10 credit hours)
    Four-to-five hour course, including a lab, in biology and *physiology - total human body systems. If anatomy and physiology are offered in a two-semester sequence, both semesters must be completed before beginning the professional phase and enrolling in human anatomy in the summer.
  • *Physical Science (3-4 credit hours)
    3 credit house may be in *chemistry or physics (with lab).
  • Computing and Information Literacy
    Evidence of course work or demonstrated proficiency must be provided.
  • *Human Development (3 credit hours)
    Life-span course, birth through aging, including theories of physical, cognitive, social and emotional development.
  • *Statistics (3 credit hours)
  • *Abnormal Psychology (3 credit hours)
  • *Medical Terminology Proficiency
    Can be completed as credit or noncredit (hospital or vocational-technical). Proof of competency must be provided: a certificate, transcript or letter from instructor.
