GRANTACTIVITES:
  • September 2007-present Reid-Arndt, S. (P.I.), Matsuda, S. (co-investigator) Title: Tai Chi Intervention for Stress and Cognitive Deficits among Female Cancer Survivors. Two graduate students are being mentored on a balance component of the study. Description of project: Baseline measurements 1-4 weeks before the study begins on quality of life, physical function, cognition and balance will be compared to end measurements in both an intervention and wait-list control group of 30 participants. Funding source: School of Health Professions Catalyst Research Fund. Funding amount: $2,000 for 2008.
  • September 2007- present Wilson , T. (P.I.), Eastman-Mueller, H. Matsuda, S. (co-investigators) Title: Impact of an Integrative Restoration (IRest) Program on University Students. Description of project: This is a pilot project; the first intervention group participated in fall 2007 and the waitlist group is currently enrolled in the campus arm of the study. Currently there are 21 OT students enrolled in the OT arm of the study.
  • September 2004-present Sandy Matsuda (P.I.) Rossy, L., Wilson , T., Eastman-Mueller, H.(co-investigators) Title: Impact of a Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Program on University Students Funding source: New Faculty Teaching Scholars, Research in Teaching Grant Funding amount: $1500 for 2004-2005. Role in project: Design and implementation of the research project in collaboration with the Director of the Mindfulness Practice Center , a nurse practitioner and a health educator from Student Health Center . Supervising 2 OT graduate students in synthesis project portion of this study. Description of project: 40 university students (20 in treatment group; 20 in control group) completed questionnaires at the beginning and end of a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction class taught through student health and the Occupational Therapy department. In the current year there are 21 additional campus-wide students participants.
  • July 2003 - present. Porter, Eileen (P.I.), Ganong, L; Gubrium, J, Matsuda, S; Lindbloom, E; Aud, M; Marek, K; (Co-Investigators) .
    Title: Old Homebound Women's Intention of Reaching Help Quickly. Funding Agency: National Institutes of Health/ National Institute on Aging. Total project amount: $600,000. Role in project: 10% FTE for 4 years to assist in instrument design, 40 in-home interviews, data analysis and publications. Description of project: The overall purpose of this phenomenological study is to describe the experience of reaching help quickly for old homebound women who live alone.
